HBT132515-01.JPG At 10.45pm on Wednesday 28th August, Hawkes Bay Police responded to a call at Sanders Ave, Napier. Family members were concerned about the safety of the single male occupant. Upon arrival Police entered the address and were confronted by a man wielding a large kitchen knife. He threatened the officers who immediately retreated. The 30 year old man then barricaded himself in his home. He threatened to detonate a home- made bomb. Police secured the area, evacuating Sanders and Logan Ave residents. Police communicated with the man until 4.30 am when he voluntarily walked out of his home. A Wellington bomb squad team are checking the residence.
