They say fashion goes around in circles - it's an apt saying especially when it comes to the resurgence in vinyl records.
Yes it's true, it now appears the good old vinyl record is back in vogue. In fact pressing plants are struggling to keep up with demand, with music purists screaming out for their favourite artists.
I have always loved records. My first record was Pink Floyd The Wall, the album cover itself was a masterpiece and I'd lay there for hours on end listening to the music, slightly freaking out on the lyrics and admiring the cover.
As a 13-year-old, there was nothing cooler than having records set up on the turntable. My collection at the time consisted of Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart's Blondes Have More Fun and Boney M's Rivers of Babylon. Oh those were the days. Yes I admit it I'd stand in front of the mirror singing Brown Girl In the Ring wishing I had enough hair to have an afro.
But then came the cassette tape followed by the CD and now downloading your music and my poor old turntable became a dust collector.
Recently I pulled out my collection of records, tapes and CDs for my teenage daughter. It was a nostalgic look down memory lane. I enlightened her on the beautiful tones of Sade singing Smooth Operator and the lyrical mastery of Terence Trent D'Arby's Holding On To You then I moved on through to the debacle known as Milli Vanilli lip syncing to Blame It On The Rain. Listening to a record just seemed more intimate; slowly placing the needle on to the record and listening to the thump, thump of the groves before the music started. I loved it.
