A day after flying into Napier Sir Paul McCartney has yet to be seen in public.
The former Beatle and Knight of the Realm kept a low profile during his visit. After a crew member of a private jet at Napier airport told Hawke's Bay Today on Wednesday night that he had "already left" , the trail went cold.
Mangapapa Hotel at Cape Kidnappers would have been a likely hang-out for multi-millionaire Sir Paul but the hotel's confidentiality agreements meant the top-of-the-line hotel said it was unable to discuss anything about possible or potential guests.
Similarly, the private Cape Kidnappers Golf Course was unable to release any information about potential clients.
Craggy Range Winery confirmed that the former Wings founder and front man had not stayed there over night, but it was "hoped" he might take lunch at the Havelock North winery.
Sir Paul is a known classic car enthusiast but on a rainy day, the British Car Museum at the cape had also not seen the Liverpool-born music legend.
Earlier this month, Sir Paul's classic 1964 Aston Martin DB5 sold at auction for $2.5m.
The David Trubridge Studio in Havelock North also had not seen Sir Paul, whose daughter Stella had previously collaborated with the Havelock North-based designer to create a display for her Parish fashion store.
Sir Paul's Twitter and Facebook feeds made no mention of New Zealand, save saying goodbye to Australia. Local social media sites were also quiet on what Sir Paul was doing here.
Sir Paul flew into Napier after playing a concert in Sydney on Monday, he will play a New Zealand concert at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday night.
The Mt Smart gig will be the musical knight's only New Zealand gig, and brings his One on One tour to an end.
