A man was arrested yesterday after waving a fake gun around a Hastings ACC office.
A police spokeswoman said about 1pm Friday, a man had gone into a commercial premises on Warren Street, and while engaging with staff there, he became agitated.
These premises was the Hawke's Bay ACC branch.
"He then reportedly removed an imitation firearm from his backpack and began waving it around the reception area," she said.
Staff immediately followed company policy and secured themselves within the building.
Police were called while the male remained in the reception area.
The spokeswoman said police would like to commend the actions of the staff, whose quick thinking helped de-escalate the situation and ensure the safety of everyone in the area. They were receiving appropriate support as a result.
A 26 year old male is due to appear in Hastings District Court tomorrow on a firearms charge and a disorder charge.
