A hail storm swept through parts of the Bay this afternoon thanks to the widespread convection lingering across the region.
The hills around Waimarama were blanketed white with hail as was the land around Tukituki Road, which MetService meteorologist Brian Mercer said was due to the thundery activity about at the moment.
"We are seeing convective showers, which are heavier and can produce these hail storms. When there is the chance of a thunderstorm there is a risk of hail."
This convection produces pretty unsettled weather and the rain becomes more localised, which means smaller areas can be hit harder and faster.
"We expect these heavy falls to be on and off until the evening."
Mr Mercer expected there to be an improvement tomorrow with the stormy weather forecast to clear later tonight.
"It should be a nice day tomorrow with the westerly winds bringing the temperature back up to around the high teens before moving into the 20s for the remainder of the week."
