Dannevirke-based businesswoman Mavis Mullins says being the first female appointment to the HBRFU board is not fazing her. She chats to Mark Story
Is it an honour or do you feel some pressure being the inaugural woman director on the HBRFU board?
It is definitely an honour to be appointed to the HBRU board, and I look forward to the challenge. Do I feel any pressure being the first woman? No not really, somehow this has been a norm for me through my career.
If you had to name the biggest challenge for the union in the next five years, what would that be?
To develop an environment where clubs and communities feel an important and listened to part of the HBRU. Where we strengthen all layers from children to the elite; women and 7s; volunteers and clubs and how we future proof our sport for the future.
Can we expect more internal union ructions in the coming months, or a new chapter?
Let's be positive and say this is a new chapter.
In the folk song about the Magpies, "There's something about a Magpie.." to you, what is that "something?"
Ha ha, that's an old one. Hawkeye the Magpie stirs memories of street parades and communities that were proud and proud to belong. Winning is the goal, but it's how you get there that matters.
What's your prediction for tonight's Lions test?
It's got to be the All Blacks, but it won't be a cake walk.
