Asbestos and rotten floors have delayed the Waipukurau's War Memorial Hall revamp.
The seismic strengthening and a major refurbishment of the hall is now not expected to be completed until the end of the month.
The 1954-built memorial hall, identified as potentially earthquake prone back in 2012, has been closed since January while the $700,000 worth of work has been carried out.
Originally due to be completed by this month, CHB mayor Alex Walker confirmed the hall was now expected to open by the end of the financial year on June 30.
She explained the delay was caused in part by some unexpected discoveries.
"There were variations once the work began to accommodate the finding of asbestos and rotten floors which was not expected, along with minor changes to the specifications. "This has resulted in an increase in the original costs but was still within the original budgeted amount," Ms Walker said.
The tender price for the project was $677,500 plus GST, which was on top of $25,021 in building consent fees and contingency costs.
Meanwhile the $340,000 project to upgrade the public car park between the hall and the AW Parsons Pool Complex and the concurrent upgrade and realignment of River Tce is all but complete.
The project had resulted in an increased number of 85 spaces at the council-owned car park. However Ms Walker said at the request of pool management, marked bus bays had been abandoned to accommodate more individual parking, with pool management to designate bus parking on as required.
