There is plenty of enthusiasm already emerging in the countdown to the great Hawke's Bay Today County2Coast event, with the only cloud over the popular recreational and competitive outing being the chance of clouds.
The forecast for this Sunday, when the event is being staged, is for cloud with periods of rain - although the temperatures driven by the northwesterly winds will be a more spring-like 21C, according to Weatherwatch forecasters.
But judging by comments on the Country2Coast site the weather is not really a factor.
It is more about getting out and getting into what has become a great day for families, teams and individuals.
The fundraising event combines a non-competitive family fun event with a more competitive half marathon using the Hawke's Bay Trails between the four start points and Farndon Park in Clive.
It is effectively something for everyone - as well as a good reason for folks to add some extra colour by getting a costume together - and there will be prizes accordingly.
Participants can enter for an 8km or 15km walk or run, a 20km bike ride, or a more challenging 21.1km half-marathon run.
The cycling section was added last year and will see entrants pedalling for about two hours, leaving from Farndon Park and going off for a loop around Gilbertson Rd and Brookfields Rd before returning to the park.
While the fun walk and fun run events will be timed, they are not races and there will be spot prizes only, while the Farndon Ride will not be timed.
The 8km McDonald's fun walk and fun run starts at Grange Rd in Haumoana and is estimated to take between an hour and 90 minutes.
A longer, non-competitive 15km family option starts at Perfume Point in Ahuriri and like the rest of the events will end at Farndon Park, where organisers are planning a village atmosphere of music, entertainment and refreshments.
For the competitive among those set to hit the trails there is the Hillmac Electrical Half Marathon, for which a trophy will be awarded to the fastest male and the fastest female runners.
Although registrations on the Country2Coast website are due today, late registrations will be accepted on Saturday at the Havelock North Function Centre or at the Farndon Park late registration tent.
The cost is $30 for those over 13, $20 for children aged 5 to 13 and kids under 5 are free.
About 600 people entered last year and a strong turnout is expected again this Sunday.
Ready, steady . . . go.
