Hawke's Bay Today understands that Hastings district councillor Adrienne Pierce has been selected to represent National in the Palmerston North electorate in this year's general election.
Ms Pierce ran for Hastings mayor at last year's local government elections and then had a tilt at the National Tukituki candidacy, but was defeated by current Hastings mayor Lawrence Yule.
Among other party contenders she will face nine-year Palmerston North veteran Labour MP Ian Lees-Galloway in the electorate, from which National incumbent Jono Naylor announced he would retire this year.
