A teenager who was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday is now in a serious condition in Hawke's Bay Hospital.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Restieaux said the 17-year-old victim was stabbed several times in an altercation with an unknown man about 4.15am on Sunday at an address on Huia St in Camberley.
He was initially in a critical condition but a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday the man was now in a serious condition.
Police have begun an assault investigation and are seeking one man in relation to the incident but no weapon has yet been found.
Mr Restieaux asked any Huia St residents who were up at the time and may have seen or heard something to come forward.
One resident said she heard her neighbour's dogs barking about the time of the incident and heard some noises but didn't check to see what was going on.
"I was awake but just stayed in bed and then I didn't know about what had actually happened until the morning when the road was blocked off," she said.
Another resident said the first she heard of the incident was also on Sunday morning when she saw the road cordoned off.
"We are still trying to work out what has happened," she said.
Mr Restieaux said there were also several parties in the area at the time of the incident so it was possible other people were out and about and may have seen or heard something.
