A man who was stabbed in Camberley early this morning is in a critical condition in Hawke's Bay hospital.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Restieaux said the victim, who was 17-years-old, was stabbed a number of times in an altercation with an unknown male at approximately 4.15am this morning at an address on Huia St in Camberley.
One resident said they heard their neighbours dogs barking at about that time and heard some noises but didn't check to see what was going on.
"I was awake but just stayed in bed and then I didn't know about what had actually happened until this morning when the road was blocked off," she said.
Another resident said the first they heard of the incident was also this morning when they saw the road cordoned off.
"We are still trying to work out what has happened," she said.
Police have commenced an investigation into the assault and are seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed or has information regarding the incident.
