Hawke's Bay has plenty of activities and events for people of all ages to enjoy. We list 8 of the best on offer this weekend.
1. Tremains Triathlon
The annual Tremains Corporate Triathlon is an exciting event for amateurs, athletes and spectators alike to attend. Teams compete over a course of a 600-metre swim, 1700-metre kayak or 1300m Stand Up Paddle Board, 5km run or walk and 20km bike ride. The race kicks off at 10.30am on Sunday at Pandora Pond.
2. African Drumming and Dance Workshop
A unique chance to learn groovy African Rhythms & Dance in a workshop with a skilled master drummer dancer from West Africa, Koffie Fugah. Koffie Fugah is an inspirational master drummer dancer from Ghana, West Africa. Participants will be introduced to West African Djembe drumming, the techniques, traditional dances and the history that goes with it. 3. Anna Hawkins NZ Tour
Back with a daring new show, Anna Hawkins fans can indulge in a live performance at the Church Road Winery Tom MacDonald Cellar as part of her 'Bold, Brave & Beautiful' New Zealand Tour. The New Zealand singer and recording artist brings a classical edge to folk and pop sound with authentic passion. The restaurant opens at 6pm and the live performance will kick off at 8pm with tickets going for $25.
4. Music and Dance at MTG
The Hawkes Bay Indian Cultural Centre (HBICC) is promoting Indian dance and music by celebrating their 2nd Anniversary with a stage show "MADE (Music and Dance Event) For a Cause 2017" at the MTG Century Theatre. Attendees will enjoy a three course meal followed by an Indian classical dance performance with part of the proceeds being donated to the Cancer Society in Hawke's Bay. Tickets (free for children under 5 years) are available from the Napier i-Site Visitor Centre or through HBICC by contacting Deepthi on 0211642979 for $20.
5. Maraekakaho Country Market Day
This weekend marks Maraekakaho's 5th annual Country Market Day in the heart of Hawke's Bay wine country. There will be homemade goodies and crafts, fresh fruit and produce, live music, games and community stalls. All proceeds go to Maraekakaho School and Gumboots, Maraekakaho Early Childhood Centre. Head to the Maraekakaho Sports Grounds between 10am and 3pm this Saturday.
6. Zootopia Movie Night
Come join the family fun at Arthur Miller School on Guppy Road for their annual fundraising movie night this Saturday. Along with a best dressed 'animal' competition for kids there will be food stalls, rides, bouncy castles and prizes to be won. Gates open at 5pm with the movie screening from approximately 8.15pm. Door sales only: family pass (two adults and four children) for $30, adult pass for $10 and child pass for $5. Event is weather permitting.
7. Urban Farmers Market
Saturday morning couldn't be better spent that strolling down Emerson Street in Napier to visit a local market that offers local goods and produce. Enjoy freshly roasted coffee, talk to the growers and shop local for the best produce throughout Hawke's Bay. Market stalls open from 9am till 1pm in Clive Square.
8. Worm Farm Workshop
This practical, hands-on workshop is your chance to learn how to setup and maintain your very own worm farm. Worm farms both minimise the amount of waste going into rubbish bins and create valuable material to feed your garden. Entry free at the Environment Centre Hawke's Bay on Karamu Rd at 10am on Saturday.
