A teenaged Napier methamphetamine addict has been sentenced to 10 months jail after admitting 13 charges of shoplifting and one other of theft.
Appearing in Napier District Court last week was 19-year-old Jacob Christensen who had in the 14 offences stolen just $956.13 of goods, mainly steak, bacon, other meat packs and similar products taken from supermarkets.
Defence counsel Phillip Ross said the shoplifting offences individually were at the "lower-level", with a maximum penalty of just three months for each offence.
All the offences were comitted in breach of release conditions, and Judge Tony Adeane hoped that with new lease conditions extending for six months after the prison sentence progarmmes would be in place to ensure Christensen rid himself of the methamphetamine habit.
