A man who allegedly kidnapped a woman and forced her to drive to an ATM has appeared in court.
The 34-year-old with interim name suppression appeared in Hastings District Court on Tuesday.
He entered no pleas to charges of failing to stop for police, reckless driving, unlawfully taking a vehicle and kidnap.
The labourer was remanded in custody to reappear on December 20.
It is alleged that he made her drive around Hastings for more than an hour on Monday afternoon.
After the incident, police said the woman fled the car when she pulled up to an ATM at the man's demand.
She ran into The Elbowroom Sports Bar in Mahora where staff called police.
It is alleged that the man fled in the woman's car and led police on a car chase through Hastings.
Police told Hawke's Bay Today that he was likely to face more charges.
