The first ever Great Dog Show is coming to Birdwoods Gallery in Havelock North today in support of the Hastings SPCA.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes and their proud owners were invited to enjoy the "beautiful" gardens and some old-fashioned fun with The Hits presenter Sarah Van Der Kley guiding everyone through the afternoon.
Birdwoods owner and Great Dog Show organiser Louise Stobart said it was a wonderful opportunity to raise some much-needed funds for the local SPCA and acknowledge the great work it does in the community.
"Our greatly loved dogs Archie and Black Dog rule the roost here, so we thought we should put on a day to celebrate everyone's faithful four-legged friends who bring so much joy to all our lives."
Registration is $10 per dog and kicks off at 1.30pm with official proceedings beginning at 2pm.
There will be doggie bags with treats for all entrants, along with lots of prizes, a hot dog stand, Rush Munro icecream, tea and scones in the Birdwoods Garden Room and lots of water bowls for the dogs.
There will be six judging categories and dogs are encouraged to brush up, dress up and get wagging in front of the crowd.
The categories include best dressed dog, shiniest dog, ugly but adorable dog, hairiest dog, most like owner and happiest rescue dog.
After the categories are concluded everyone will go in to the ring for the grand parade and the first "best in the show" winner will be announced.
The judges are Annie Dundas, Alistair Denton and Vicky Turfrey.
Owners must keep their dogs on a lead at all times and stay on the other end, no female dogs in season can take part and owners under 12 must have an adult with them.
If it's raining the Great Dog Show will be postponed to Saturday, October 22.
