Murphy's stolen karts found

Stolen go-karts owned by racing car driver Greg Murphy have been recovered.

They and other items were found today when police searched a property in Buchanan St, Bay View while looking for a man wanted on warrant.

Police were overwhelmed with the amount of property found.

During a search of the rural property they found sheds and shipping containers full of stolen items, including three go-karts, three trail bikes, numerous car and motorbike parts and tools.

They also found steel and aluminium framing that was taken from a burglary at the Hawke's Bay Aero Club rooms in Awatoto last month.

Cannabis and methamphetamine were also found, along with a shotgun, pistol and ammunition.

A 32-year-old Napier man is facing a number of charges relating to both the drugs and the stolen property.

The owner had installed a comprehensive surveillance camera system around the property, detective Sergeant John McCarthy said.

"There is literally piles of items that we need to go through, record and hopefully find owners for. It will be a lengthy process to establish where these items have come from," Mr McCarthy said.

The go-karts were stolen during a break-in at the Hawke's Bay Go-Kart Club at Fernhill last year. Police also found equipment and other items taken during the burglary.

Mr McCarthy said efforts would be made to return the property to its owners over the next week.
