Children in two suburban Hastings schools had to be kept in class for an extra half-hour yesterday as the Hawke's Bay Police Armed Offender Squad was called-out for the second time in less than 24 hours.
The alarm was raised after an incident in suburban Camberley about 2.30pm, said to involve a father and son.
Police closed public access to Kiwi Place and a section of Kiwi St from the Lowe St intersection to Moa Place as the AOS was called-in from around the region.
Police also alerted people at a tangi on a private section in Huia St, backing on to the area at the centre of the operation.
As residents stood around, noting it wasn't the first time there had been an armed police callout in the Kiwi Pl area, the cordon was relaxed about 3.30pm and schools were told pupils could make their way home.
Police visited a house , and Senior Sergeant Dan Foley, of the police district command centre, said two men were later charged with threatening offences.
It was not thought any charges had been laid alleging possession or use of firearms.
On Monday afternoon, police mounted a similar operation near Maraenui Park in Napier after being told a man had presented a firearm at a woman in a domestic incident.
Police surrounded a Hislop Ave house and ultimately entered the building, found no sign of the man, but did seize two firearms from the address.
Police said yesterday they were seeking 49-year-old Shane Teddy in relation to the Napier incident and had visited several properties. Senior Sergeant Dan Foley, of Eastern Police District Command Centre confirmed early last night the wanted man had not been found, and anyone knowing his whereabouts was being urged to contact police.
There were no links between the two incidents.
