Police are still looking for two young men involved in a home invasion incident in Raureka last weekend which left an elderly resident with facial injuries.
The 73-year-old man had got up about 2am on Saturday to go to the toilet and heard noises coming from the kitchen.
He came across the pair, who immediately fled the house.
One struck the elderly man as he ran past, leaving him with a gash to his lip which required six stitches.
Detective Glenn Restieaux of Hawke's Bay CIB said while there were two men in the house there may have been a third involved at some stage, and they made have made off in a vehicle parked nearby.
A police dog followed a trail from the Gordon Rd property to nearby Florence St but lost the men. He believed the pair had been setting out to burgle the house but were disturbed before taking anything.
The intruders had got in through an open window.
Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the immediate area around Gordon Rd during the night.
Calls can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
