A 46-year-old woman was assaulted in Maraenui Park in Napier in the early hours of the morning.
Police believe two men attacked the woman, who lives in the area, about 4.00am today.
She was left distraught, detective sergeant Jason Crowe said.
The woman received medical attention for her injuries and would be spoken to this afternoon by detectives to find out what happened.
Police have spoken to residents in the area and would like to speak to the owner of a white van seen leaving the Curling Road area about 4.00am today.
Mr Crowe said vehicle was not linked to the incident but police believed the occupants may be able to assist with the inquiry.
