Hawke's Bay pianist Shaqaila Uelese says she is working on an album of original music, to be released before she embarks on a Mormon mission in the new year.
Ms Uelese became an internet hit after performing her impromptu version of the Queen hit Bohemian Rhapsody on a public piano this year.
The clip, recorded by her younger brother in Napier's Emerson St, went viral after Hawke's Bay Today published a story about the popular rendition.
The clip was shared by Queen's lead guitarist, Brian May.
Ms Uelese, who has been playing piano for 10 years, loaded her 4-minute video to YouTube following its social media success, where it had been viewed more than 866,000 times.
The unexpected publicity has opened doors for the humble Ms Uelese, who along with her studies also volunteers her time to play piano in the main foyer of Wellington Hospital every week.
"It was definitely one of the highlights of my year, but it was everything that came after that, not only as a pianist but as a person."
She was planning to take time out from her Bachelor Degree studies next year, to embark on an 18-month Mormon mission to an as-yet-unknown destination in March.
But forever keeping herself busy, she will write 12 instrumental tracks before she leaves.
"A lot of people writing from the States especially requesting music and I'm finally putting something together."
The tracks will be based on 12 people who had helped her change in some way.
"The majority are sisters who have helped me prepare for the mission."
The album, tentatively titled Key Changes, will feature an array of musical key changes and will be released early next year.
Ms Uelese has also been playing charity gigs throughout the country this summer.
She recently played Christmas carols at Hastings' Brittany House and Cranford Hospice.
