Another boulder is clawed into place as part of a seafront rebuild and enhancement programme going on along the western end of Hardinge Rd in Ahuriri.
Several hundred metres of the rocky shoreline stretch has been sealed off by barriers while excavators and heavy lift machines have worked to create an outer boulder wall.
Smaller boulders have been dropped between the wall and the shoreline and the surface built up.
Hawke's Bay Regional Council communications manager Drew Broadley said the Napier City Council had contracted the work out to the regional council as part of a shoreline refreshment and enhancement programme.
The work had effectively extended the shoreline out by several metres.
