Police are hunting two men who robbed a tourist in Haumoana early this morning.
Detective Sergeant John McCarthy said the 31-year-old female Chinese visitor was sleeping in her vehicle parked overnight in the Haumoana Domain carpark. About 4.20am she was woken by a torch light shining into her vehicle.
The woman thought the people were police so she opened the car door. She was confronted by two males demanding her car keys.
"The woman pleaded with the men not to take her car. They then left with a quantity of cash, an Apple Notebook and two cellphones - one a white iphone 5 and the second a Chinese brand phone."
Police are now seeking information about the two men. They are described as male Caucasian, aged about 30 to 35 and unshaven.
They were seen leaving together in a vehicle, believed to be a red four-door saloon.
The victim was shaken but otherwise unhurt and has been referred to Victim Support.
