Interested in watching some waterskiing, wakeboarding and barefooting - or maybe even trying it yourself?
This Sunday, Backpaddock Lakes and the Central Hawke's Bay Ski, Wake and Barefoot Club are holding a free public open day.
A fun day, it's aimed at getting friends and families along to check out the world class watersports facilities available at Backpaddock Lakes, Speedy Rd, Waipukurau.
Even if you have never skied, wakeboarded or barefooted before, there will be an opportunity for anyone to have a go, with local club members on hand with their boats to safely coach people of all ages and skill level (lessons cost $5).
Demonstrations on the water will be taking place on the hour every hour by the club's top skiers.
A demonstration not to be missed will be Hugo Schaw, the Asia-Oceania barefoot champion, who recently returned from Australia with seven medals.
He will also be available for coaching.
Members of the public are encouraged to bring along their picnics and make the most of the day; the club will be running a barbecue and have cold drinks available as well.
People thinking of having a go at any of the sports are encouraged to bring their togs and towel, and their own ski/wakeboard, wetsuit and lifejacket.
For those who don't have them, lifejackets, skis and wakeboards suitable for all ages will be available along with a limited supply of wetsuits - although these are not a strict requirement to take part.
The club urges people to leave their boats at home on this occasion as the club will be supplying their own boats to use on the day.
The day's activities will run from 10am-4pm.
When: Sunday, November 9, 10am to 4pm.
Where: Backpaddock Lakes, 314 Speedy Road (12km South of Waipukurau off SH2 it will be signposted).
