Anthony Gouder may have a bald head in the first photos with his yet-to-be-born baby, but it will be worth it if he raises enough money for CanTeen.
The Hawke's Bay Regional Council employee promised to shave his hair off if staff donated more than $500, while a colleague has agreed to wax his chest for the cause.
"When Kerrie [Waby] from CanTeen found out about the head shave she offered to help get donations through Give a Little," Mr Gouder said.
With initiatives such as a bake sale, where staff members bring cakes and other treats to work for the next four Fridays, he hoped to create awareness and collect money for the charity, which helped young people and their families dealing with cancer.
Yesterday got off to a great start, with $75 in gold coin donations gathered from those who purchased the baked delights.
It is tied in with a campaign to get workmates involved in the Mitre 10 MEGA Walk from Hastings to Napier on November 9, which also benefits CanTeen.
"We want to get as many people together as possible and, hopefully, we can win the council walk," he said.
This year, a new award has been added to spice up competition between councils from throughout the region, with Mr Gouder keen to snaffle the prize for the largest team.
"We would win a trophy and bragging rights for a whole year."
Mr Gouder also aimed to raise more than $1000 outside of work for the cause, something he was juggling with the expected birth of his child next week.
He also volunteered with CanTeen. After losing his father to cancer at the age of 19, he knew the hurt it could bring, and wanted to help others going through difficult times.
"It's very rewarding work, being a teenager is hard to deal with at the best of times, then they have all this other grief to deal with. If I can make one kid happy for a day, then it's worth it."
He has been helping out for about six months.

Those with a competitive streak can enter Hogs Breath Cafe Challenge to be professionally timed and eligible for prizes.
