A 6000sq m area of undeveloped land will be given a new look, with input from the community and Hastings Host Lions Club.
The proposed playground and family area will transform an under-utilised section of Windsor Park in Hastings, which borders Splash Planet on the corner of Sylvan and Grove Roads.
In partnership with the Lions, council will rebuild and remodel the wide open space that has been tucked away behind a high fence for many years.
"It's in the early stages, but the most exciting thing is our partnership with the Lions, who have already put a design team together," Councillor Sandra Hazlehurst said. "It's a nice area, with lots of established trees that could be something really, really special."
It will be aptly named Lions Playground, to mark their continued involvement in co-ordinating programmes and events in the area and surrounding park, once it's complete.
With the safety of children in mind, council proposes a low fence be installed around the perimeter, with pathways, a community barbecue and toilet block already earmarked for the development.
"We wanted it to be something unique, it will be a different look and feel to our other parks," Ms Hazlehurst said.
Lions Club members were excited to be working with council to come up with something special, that would ultimately be a boost for Mayfair.
"This project will benefit children, parents, grandparents and also visitors to Hastings and we look forward to having a continued association with the park for many years to come," Lions Club president Graeme Mueller said.
"We have a vision to bring some of the Fantasyland sparkle back to this small corner of Hastings," Mr Mueller said.
