Spring has well and truly arrived in the region, with a week of mild weather and increasing temperatures ahead.
WeatherWatch.co.nz forecaster Aaron Wilkinson said cloud this morning would give way to sun in the afternoon, with light southerlies and a high of 14C.
Showers confined to an area north of Wairoa would peter out as the day progressed.
Tomorrow was also expected to be mostly sunny, with light winds turning northerly, a touch of high cloud and highs up to 16C.
On Thursday, winds are expected to turn northwesterly, with areas of low cloud breaking away and the day becoming fine, with a high of 18C. But high cloud would thicken in the afternoon, causing "a few specks" of rain, clearing overnight.
Saturday was the pick of the week, with a high of 20C, but northwesterly winds would turn southwest in the evening, bringing showers.
MetService meteorologist Frances Russell confirmed "temperatures are rising as the week goes on".
