Locals should rug up at night as low overnight temperatures are expected to bring frosty conditions this week, MetService says.
A cold southerly change put an end to above average temperatures in the region at the weekend.
MetService forecaster Stephen Glassy said an overnight low of 3C was measured in Napier yesterday morning.
The cool temperature was due to clear skies and low winds. Such conditions could cause frost in some areas, he said.
There would be overnight lows of 6-7C throughout the week.
Today would see high cloud thickening during the day and northwesterlies.
Tomorrow, showers were expected with wind turning to southwesterlies.
More rain was forecast for Thursday.
