Hawke's Bay Today's Bring yer Boots has kicked into a higher gear, with the region getting behind the campaign.

The cross-code initiative - launched last Friday with Magpies first five-eighth Ihaia West donating a pair of his playing boots - is geared to encourage people to donate their old sports boots for children needing some sprigged footwear this winter.

The Averill family from Havelock were putting their best foot forward by dropping in about 15 pairs of boots to the Hawke's Bay Today main office yesterday..

Beth Averill has three boys who play rugby.

"The boots had been clogging up room in the cupboard, so I thought right, let's have a clean-up," Mrs Averill said.

Hawke's Bay Today editor Andrew Austin said he was pleased the newspaper could play a positive role in the community and he encouraged anyone with unwanted boots to donate them.

The newspaper will identify sports clubs and schools for distribution later.

If you have any boots lying around, please drop them off at any one of our offices in Napier, Hastings, Waipukurau or Dannevirke.
