Police are hoping security video footage of a brazen $180,000 jewellery smash and grab in Napier earlier this week will lead them to the culprit.
At 3am on Tuesday 180 rings were stolen from the Napier Antique and Jewellery Centre when a thief smashed a window and pocketed the stock.
"Hopefully the video will jog someone's memory of seeing someone dressed like that in Napier at that time of the morning," Detective Ross Alexander said.
The video was due to be posted on the Hawke's Bay Police Facebook page. It shows a hooded man smashing a hole in a window of the Tennyson St shop, jumping through and then emptying out trays on the shop floor containing 180 diamond and precious-stone rings. The thief spent just 35 seconds inside the shop.
Co-owner Raewyn Dailei said some rings were worth $4000.
"It was all our stock for the cruise ship season and the busiest month of the year with Art Deco Weekend," she said.
"We are seriously out of pocket."
Mr Alexander said anyone who is offered jewellery with dubious origins or who has information on the robbery is asked to contact police or the anonymous Crimestoppers phone line on 0800 555 111.
