Don't expect any let-up in the present run of hot, fine weather - at least until the end of the week when a couple of warm but slightly damp days are forecast.
Napier and Hastings can expect daily high temperatures in the mid- to high 20s between today and Wednesday, with a 30C scorcher predicted for both cities on Thursday.
MetService duty forecaster Elke Louw said westerlies were forecast to become gusty on Thursday, and the dry winds would lift temperatures.
The hot Thursday would be followed by a southerly change on Friday when strong southerly winds were expected to develop with showers.
Those showers were not expected to be significant enough to cool the region down too much, however, with temperatures forecast to remain in the high 20s.
A bit of rain will no doubt be welcome by urban gardeners who have had virtually no rainfall to complement their watering efforts so far this year.
Napier and Hastings have only recorded a single day of rain so far in 2014.
That was last Thursday when 2mm fell in Hastings and just under 1mm was recorded in Napier.
