The Havelock North Rotary Club presented the proceeds raised from this year's Country2Coast to Flaxmere community organisation U-Turn Trust last night .
The funds were given to councillor Henare O'Keefe for his U-Turn Trust and a representative from the Anderson Park Community Group at the Havelock North Function Centre.
"It's fantastic, all the proceeds are coming from the Country2Coast. It is really humbling that they have so much faith in you, they see our troubles and tribulations and appreciate and admire what we do," Mr O'Keefe said.
U-Turn Trust is a non-profit, non-government organisation that aims to uplift and inspire community attitudes and spirit, reverse negative social statistics and performance in Flaxmere.
It also strives to highlight positives and celebrate successes in the Flaxmere community, and assist in coordinating a more cohesive and unified approach by the various government and non-government organisations working within Flaxmere.
"This is their way supporting us. We have achieved a hell of a lot, it has been quite stunning to be honest," Mr O'Keefe said.
He said the funds would go to a number of projects "where the rubber meets the road".
"It could go to a number of areas, our community garden, the calendar, the Flaxmere Boxing Academy, our mobile BBQ, or it may go to family in need that needs some furniture or help."
The latest project from the trust was the Flaxmere Boxing Academy just over 12 months ago, which was designed to build self esteem, pride and confidence in young people.
The Country2Coast event is a fun run along the 15km coastal walking and cycling Rotary track from Clive to Clifton.
