A Hawke's Bay man appeared in court today charged with stupefying a teenage girl, sexually violating her and making an intimate visual recording.

The 47-year-old man entered not guilty pleas to charges of stupefying, unlawful sexual connection, indecent assault and making an intimate visual recording.

He elected to have a trial by jury.

The offending is alleged to have occurred in Waipukurau on July 24.

In Hastings District Court today Judge Geoff Rea extended name suppression for the man on the ground of health issues concerning his daughter.

His lawyer, Bill Calver, said to publish the man's name would "significantly increase stress to her''.

He was remanded on bail to reappear in court on October 1.
