Jogger was assaulted, left unconscious


A 21-year-old female jogger was assaulted and left unconscious in Pirimai Park, Napier last night.

Hawkes Bay Police said they are investigating the attack on the female who was struck on the head, and left lying in the park which borders Trinity Crescent, while jogging between 6pm and 6.15pm.

She was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital for treatment to her head injury.


Police last night had cordoned off a section of the park with two scene guards stationed at the scene.

Neighbours said police had been scouring the area earlier. A Hawke's Bay Hospital spokeswoman

said the jogger was assessed, treated and discharged earlier this morning.

Police would like to hear from any person who may have been in the vicinity of the park between 5.30 and 6.30 pm.

They would also like to hear from anyone who saw any person in the park or nearby streets during that same time.
