Work is well under way in anticipation of the official unveiling of 19 pou, or carved figures, at Hastings Civic Square tomorrow morning.
The pou have been carved to represent ancestors of the district.
The installation of the pou is led by Nga Marae o Heretaunga in partnership with the Hastings District Council and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
Assembly at Eastbourne St will begin at 4.40am, with the blessing of an unveiling of each pou to begin at 5am, followed by entertainment at 7am.
Each of the pou represents an ancestor from 19 marae in the Heretaunga district involved in the project.
Local marae have taken part in the carving.
The unveiling will also signal the beginning of the redevelopment of civic square in a partnership between the Hastings District Council and Nga Marae o Heretaunga.
