The manager of Hawke's Bay Fish and Game Peter McIntosh has been fined $300 for an incident in which he crashed his company car and left the scene.
McIntosh's car was found about 4.30pm overturned on Kahuranaki Rd near Havelock North on April 19.
He handed himself in for questioning four days later.
He was initially charged with being under the influence of alcohol while in charge of a firearm but that charge was withdrawn when he appeared at Hastings District Court on Monday.
He had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving. On that charge he was convicted and fined.
His lawyer, Bill Calver, said a neighbour of McIntosh's drove past and picked him up after the crash but he went to talk to the police as soon as he realised they wanted to speak to him.
McIntosh spoke to the Hawke's Bay Today yesterday and said the courts had dealt with the matter now.
"It's just unfortunate the police officer involved leaked inaccurate information to the media.
"They said I'd been charged with a whole bunch of things I actually hadn't been."
