Delectable dining on Bay winter menu

Two talented foodies will join forces to create four tasty dishes with a local flavour and an element of surprise.

Black Barn head chef Terry Lowe and multi-award winning Rex Morgan, co-owner of Wellington's Boulcott Street Bistro, next week present Bistro to Bistro, Boulcott to Black Barn - a new Winter Food and Wine Classic (FAWC) event.


 


They will serve four courses featuring the Bay's freshest produce during an interactive evening of entertainment, exquisite food and banter. While their Friday-night dinner has sold out, places are left on Thursday, from 7pm.

"We are just doing something from the dishes on the menu, nothing too flashy, just good food," Mr Lowe said.

He didn't want to give too much away, but said it was a chance for people to experience Mr Morgan's cooking skills without having to leave the Bay.

"It's supposed to be a surprise but I can say they will get four great courses, and for $80 that's affordable."

In all, 29 fun, fresh FAWC events were designed, with the aim of spicing up winter and giving people something to look forward to at a traditionally quiet time of year.

After the success of a unique, inaugural summer series, locals and out-of-towners can enjoy a host of new experiences, tailored to suit the colder months.

Already 13 events are off the menu, having sold out, but there is still plenty more to see and do - and taste.

While the sunshine may be absent from festivities, there will be no shortage of red wine, excellent food and fireplaces lit to create a welcoming atmosphere.

If there is sufficient interest in Winter FAWC, it may become a permanent fixture on the Hawke's Bay calendar.
