Food and fashion are a passionate combination for those involved with the growing Hastings Pak'nSave Edible Fashion Awards.
Now in it's ninth year, the June event's elaborate evening award ceremony is being paired back to let the spotlight fall on designers.
" It will still be a highly entertaining show, but all that will be secondary to the designs," Event and Production Manager Andrea Taaffe said.
Ideas being dreamed up are getting bigger, Ms Taaffe said.
"It's really starting to expand in that area - the time, thought and creativity is just amazing. Even children are not just slapping a costume together, a significant amount of effort goes into every entry."
A theme helps to inspire designs - this time around it's Kiwiana.
Entrants, from 5-year-olds to adults, will come together on the same stage at Hawke's Bay Opera House for a pre-judging section on the morning of June 1.
The Designer of the Year Award winner will receive $1200 cash as well as a return trip for two and two nights accommodation to Melbourne, courtesy of Best Travel. A People's Choice Award will also get a $500 prize.
