Police seek witnesses to assault at Francis Hicks Ave

By Doug Laing

Police are seeking public help relating to an assault in Hastings which led to a woman being admitted to hospital with facial injuries late on Thursday night.

Police Family Violence Team leader Detective Sergeant Darren Pritchard said parts of the assault took place in streets near Stortford Lodge, and would have been witnessed by passing motorists.

While a 29-year-old man was arrested and remanded in custody after a brief court appearance yesterday, police are seeking help from any person who may have witnessed any part of the incident in Maraekakaho Rd, Lowe St or Francis Hicks Ave.

Police were called to a Maraekakaho Rd house about 11pm and found the woman with what Mr Pritchard said were serious facial injuries. The man was arrested at the property.

Mr Pritchard said inquiries established the victim had tried to get help from occupants of three passing vehicles. It was thought occupants of at least one vehicle would have seen part of the assault.

Two of the vehicles were described as a white, new model four-door car with a middle aged male Caucasian driver, and an older model red coloured Toyota Corolla, he said.

The man faces a charge of assault with intent to injure. The woman was discharged from hospital yesterday.
