Hawke's Bay people looking to embark on a slightly more out-of-the-ordinary journey to Wellington next month are being offered the chance - if they have three days to spare.
The Spirit of Adventure Trust is set to celebrate 40 years, and as part of the celebrations the iconic three-masted barquentine Spirit of New Zealand will be circumnavigating the entire country and taking as many people along for the voyage as cabin space, and bookings, allow.
The trust's marketing and communications manager, Summer Jenkins, said the ship would be sailing into Hawke Bay and tying up at the Port of Napier on January 16.
It would then prepare and sail to Wellington on a three-day journey south anyone over the age of 18 could take part in - with limited tickets for the voyage being available for $490.
Ms Jenkins said no sailing experience was required.
The Spirit of New Zealand's regular role is as a youth development vessel.
Making between 25 and 29 voyages a year, since first setting sail under the banner of the trust it has carried more than 60,000 young people between the age of 15 and 18 on team-building adventures and voyages.
The ship calls at Napier usually once a year.
Ms Jenkins said 2013 would again be mainly youth voyages but a small number of special sailings, for adults, had been arranged to celebrate the 40 years.
