A 44-year-old Tiniroto man died yesterday after his vehicle rolled over a 5-metre bank about 23 kilometres north of Wairoa.
Emergency services responded after a farm worker discovered the scene at midday, but police said it appeared the accident happened about 9.15am.
Only one vehicle was involved in the accident and the deceased was the sole occupant.
It appeared the vehicle left the road, crashed through some trees and rolled over a 5m bank before coming to rest on its roof.
It was not visible from the road but was visible from neighbouring farm paddocks.
The accident happened on Tiniroto Rd, just north of Wainwright Rd, and the man died at the scene, police said.
The police photographer and Serious Crash Investigators from Gisborne attended the scene and enquiries into the cause of the crash were continuing.
