I have recently been involved in one of the LSV intakes in Trentham as an employer. I went to promote horticulture as a career as I work for a large horticultural employer in the Hawkes Bay. Our company is proactive in trying to recruit young people into our workforce as, like most large employers, our workforce is an aging one. I found the LSV course to be very profesional. It was explained to us that the attitude and motivation levels of the participants had changed drastically. Some of the participants had worked for our company in the past and I can varify that attitudes had certainly changed for the better. Any one who doubts the benefit of such a course should first attend and observe before passing judgement. Our future workforce and countries productivity, not just horticulture, depends on young people entering into sustainable employment. The motivation and life skills learnt on such courses will be life changing for most of the participants. Sustainable employment may not be an immediate outcome of the LSV training but it sure as hell is a step in the right direction. I am satisfied with the results that I have witnessed and consider these results to be a successful outcome. I am happy to contibute my tax dollar and time to future courses. It is refreshing to be involved in helping young people. Positivity or negativety? its a no brainer.
