Care urged on busy Bay roads

Motorists driving through Pandora today and tomorrow are again being asked to take care, be patient and be prepared to expect slight delays as two sports events are staged.

Last Sunday the first of five events in the Shed 2 Triathlon series got under way, and today the Ironmaori children's Duathlon and youth Triathlon will be taking place, with the Ironmaori Half-Ironman being staged tomorrow.

Both events will be held on State Highway 2 and SH2B (the Hawke's Bay Expressway), and on some local streets and roads in the Pandora area.

"Extra care by motorists will be required in the Pandora area, at the Expressway Estuary Bridge and at the Expressway/Prebensen Drive roundabout," a New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman said.

Marshalls will be in place and stop-go traffic management will be operating at some sites, with minor delays expected.

On SH2 between Napier and Gisborne cycleway construction is being carried out at the southern end of Bay View, while bridge repairs are under way at the northern end of Whirinaki Beach near Tangoio where there are likely to be temporary traffic signals.

Minor delays can be expected.

Delays are also likely at various sites on SH2 between Napier and Dannevirke as road reconstruction and maintenance and road sealing crews will be working between Pakipaki and the Takapau Plains.

On SH2B, the expressway between Westshore and Prebensen Drive, cable laying is under way as well as retrofit work and guardrail barrier repairs at the Estuary Bridge. There are likely to be minor delays.

Pavement maintenance crews are working on stretches of SH5 between Te Pohue and Tarawera, while drainage maintenance and road sealing crews can be expected between Napier and Tikokino and the Takapau Plains on SH50 between Napier and Dannevirke.

"Extra care and patience will be required at these sites and delays can be expected."
