A man who died in hospital after being stabbed in the abdomen on Saturday has been named as 22-year-old Christopher Robin Jones.
Police arrived at a house on King St South to find Mr Jones with serious injuries about 2am on Saturday.
He was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital where he underwent a four-hour emergency surgery, but died about 9am.
A 22-year-old woman, believed to be engaged to Mr Jones, will appear in Hastings District Court today, charged with assault in relation to the incident.
Hawke's Bay Today understands Mr Jones moved from Christchurch to Hawke's Bay for work more than a year ago, but had only been living at the King St South address for three months.
Detective Sergeant Emmet Lynch of Hawke's Bay CIB said police were making steady progress with their inquiries and early post-mortem results were being evaluated. Forensic investigators continued their examinations of the weatherboard bungalow yesterday.
Mr Lynch said police were working their way through interviews with a large number of people, who were at the house when the incident occurred.
Police were unable to comment any further as the matter was before the courts.
