An equestrian competition aimed at Primary and Intermediate students had a record turn-out at the Hawke's Bay A&P; Showgrounds in Hastings.
Last week over 100 entrants, ranging in age from 5- 13 years took part in dressage, show jumping, fancy dress and barrel racing.
"The idea is to give students the chance to represent their school," event organiser Rachel Hulls said. "It also encourages them to get involved with different disciplines."
Schools from Norsewood, Dannevirke, Hastings, Napier, Taradale, Puketapu and Havelock North joined in for a "feel good" day of competition.
"This is the third year we have done it, but our first time at the showgrounds. It was a really great atmosphere with friendly competition - they all help each other out and the judges chip in with helpful advice on how to improve."
The event has grown substantially in the three years, since it started Ms Hull said.
"I have been involved with organising similar events for High Schools, but I realised there was nothing for the younger kids, that's how it got started.
"We actually had to turn people away this year because it was so popular."
