NZTA urges caution around construction

Caution and courtesy is the advice the New Zealand Transport Agency is giving motorists travelling SH5 between Napier and Taupo tomorrow.

There are no roadworks being carried out on the stretch of road the Ramblers Cycling Club are staging the Taupo to Napier cycle race, but motorists can expect to encounter cyclists between mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

The riders will be in action from Taupo through to the Glengarry Rd intersection, and will be escorted. Speed restrictions and stop-go signals will be in place at the Glengarry Rd turn-off and there could be delays of up to five minutes.

The final touches are being applied to the new SH2 Pandora Rd and West Quay roundabout, with the NZTA advising the site will be closed to south-bound traffic from next Tuesday.

Traffic will be detoured south via the Expressway (SH2B) and Prebensen Drive and the route will be clearly signed, with the site open only to north-bound traffic.

On SH2 between Napier and Wairoa pavement and drainage maintenance crews will be at work around the Putorino region, and between Napier and Waipawa underground cabling crews are working.

There is also construction being carried out at Pakipaki, and road maintenance crews can be expected between Waipukurau and Dannevirke. Expect minor delays.

Delays are also anticipated in the Tikokino and Onga Onga areas of SH50 where drainage maintenance crews will be at work next Monday and Tuesday.
