A 19-year-old man is in Hawke's Bay Hospital with serious head injuries after being struck by a car in Riverbend Rd in Napier on Saturday.
Hawke's Bay Road Policing Sergeant Clint Adamson said the accident happened about 3.20pm. Witnesses told police it appeared the young man had got out of a vehicle, understood to have been a van, on the passenger side and run around the front of it and on to the road.
One police officer said it appeared the woman motorist had been unable to avoid striking him.
The man was taken to hospital and his condition was said to be serious but stable.
Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident.
