Drivers making their way between Hastings and Havelock North last Saturday were given a highly visible reminder that the police blitz against drinking drivers is an ongoing, and determined one.
The booze bus was set up at the Havelock North end of Havelock Rd for about two hours through to just before midnight and all drivers were stopped and asked to "speak your name please" into the hand-held breath-alcohol analysers.
While no statistics from the checkpoint were available at this stage, one person at the scene said at least two people were seen being asked to stop further along the road and carry out a second breath test.
One man, in his 20s, was later seen entering the bus for further processing.
It is understood the Police Traffic Alcohol Group paid particular focus on Havelock North, with a second unit also covering the second main route into and out of the village.
Several police units were also seen patrolling the central bar area throughout the night.
