Scott Guy's wife will today give evidence about the three labrador puppies her brother-in-law allegedly killed to throw homicide investigators off the trail.
The Crown alleges Ewen Macdonald gunned down Mr Guy, 31, in his driveway in the early morning darkness of July 8, 2010 after mounting tensions over the Feilding family farm they co-managed.
Macdonald, 32, has denied the charge.
Mr Guy's wife Kylee will today take the witness stand for the third time in the High Court at Wellington to give evidence about the `chocolate' labrador and its puppies.
Three of the seven puppies, which were kept in a cow shed at the Guys' Aorangi Rd home, were discovered missing after Mr Guy was killed.
The Crown alleges Macdonald stole and killed three puppies to throw investigators off the trail.
Mr Guy's father Bryan Guy and older sister Nikki will also give evidence on the puppies.
Detective Ross Peat yesterday gave evidence that he noticed a ``wavy pattern'' in a couple of places near the cow shed where the puppies were kept.
Police searched in a grid through a paddock and found a set of tracks leading from the road to the shed.
The track impressions were flagged, numbered and cast - but the two impressions at the cow shed were only photographed.
The prosecution case is that Macdonald wore dive boots with a distinctive pattern when he killed Mr Guy and stole the puppies, but later disposed of them.
The trial before Justice Simon France and a jury of 11 was set down for six weeks but evidence is likely to wrap up earlier than that.
