Horse rolls on rider
A 21-year-old rider taking part in a hunt on a farm west of Porangahau received pelvis, head and leg injuries when she fell from her horse while attempting a jump, and then the animal rolled over her. She was airlifted to Hawke's Bay Hospital by the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter at about 2.30pm yesterday.
Man hurt in tree fall
A 48-year-old is in a stable condition in Hawkes Bay Hospital, Hastings, after falling four metres from a tree in Nuhaka on Sunday while pruning. The man was flown to hospital by the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter shortly after noon with spinal, head, and neck injuries.
A way with words
Former national Scrabble champ Jeff Grant of Hastings showed he still has a way with words, when he finished runner-up in the New Zealand National Scrabble Championships held in Auckland during the weekend. Howard Warner of Auckland is this year's champion, narrowly winning with 13 wins from 15 games - Mr Grant had 12 wins. Joan Thomas of Hastings finished 15th in B Grade with 6 wins.
