Lanterns help brighten up park garden

Hastings International Cultures Day at Cornwall Park tomorrow has been cancelled because poor weather is forecast.

But an initiative to light up the park's Osmanthus Garden is going ahead. Chinese lanterns will shine in the garden until 11pm, tonight, Saturday and Sunday.

Chinese nationals Yan Iao (left) and Jingjing Xi are from Hastings' sister city Guilin, currently at Hastings Girls' High School. They were with Hastings District Council's international advisory group chairman Kevin Watkins (centre) to see the lanterns switched on last night. PHOTO/DUNCAN BROWN HBT121277-02
